A Whole New World

Despite the title, this post isn't about Aladdin XD. It's about books. I can't think of anything that I consider more fascinating than books (I know some people might disagree, but that's how I feel). To me, they're more than just a bunch of words put together to tell a story. They're paths to whole new worlds, where you might find people, creatures and places you've never imagined. This might sound crazy, but books are like drugs to me. They are the way I've found to escape reality: I open a book that I find interesting, and soon I'm drown to it, as if I could enter the book like Alice falling in the hole. I'm transported to the story in such a way, that it's useless talking to me while I'm reading: I just won't listen to a word, 'cause I'm not actually there, sitting on the couch in my living room. I get involved with the story, I fall in love with the characters, I'm down whenever bad things happen to them, I cry when they die... They're friends I can take with me: they're not imaginary, they real. They exist in a different world than mine, but they do.

Being such a book lover is the main reason why I'm loving the "Tintenherz" (Ink Heart) series. It's not just a very well written and interesting story: it's about people who love books even more than I do. And the author is great: she can put in words things I feel and would never be able to express in such a beautiful way. So today I'll write two paragraphs I read today that really left an impression on me. Hope you enjoy them too! =] (Oh, I'm sorry, but I'm reading the books in German, so I won't translate it, because it has to have the author's words, not mine. I think you can get the general idea if you use a translator).

- Tintenblut, Cornelia Funke
